For 33 years, I have been a full-time law professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law. In addition to teaching and publishing, my role as a law professor has enabled me to lecture in 18 states, to brief and argue before the Supreme Court, and to serve as an expert witness in judicial and legislative arenas, as well as the media.
Unlike most legal academics, I practice law as well. Warnken, LLC, is a six-attorney law firm in Towson, Md. The Firm concentrates in
(1) criminal cases (mostly post verdict, e.g., appeals, post convictions, paroles and clemency, with some federal and state trial representation);
(2) civil appeals;
(3) family law matters;
(4) administrative law, e.g., police discipline, professional licensure; and
(5) general litigation, e.g., estate disputes, business matters, contracts.
The timing of the launch of the blog known as Professor Warnken.com is interesting. My son, Byron B. Warnken, Esq., joined Warnken, LLC, in January 2010. Prior to that, he served as President of an eight figure internet marketing company. I will go to an “of counsel” status with the Firm on my 65th birthday in 2011. At that time, I will only take one case at a time during the academic year and possibly more in the summer.
As the baton at Warnken, LLC, is slowly passed to a new generation, the purpose of Professor Warnken.com is to share my experiences and my perspective. As an academic, I have learned about, and I have taught, many fine-tuned nuances in the law. My students have included (1) members of the legislative branch, i.e., Congress, Maryland General Assembly, county councils; (2) members of the judicial branch, e.g., judges on Maryland’s highest court and retired judges; (3) members of the executive branch, e.g., elected State’s Attorneys; and (4) senior partners in major national and international law firms.
As a law professor, I have had opportunities that would not have come my way simply by being an attorney. And, as a practicing attorney, I have taken the understanding that a law professor must acquire, and I have used that knowledge to the distinct advantage of my clients. Thus, Professor Warnken.com will share those experiences and insights with my readers.

As a former student and current colleague, I look forward to reading what I know will be sharp, educational, and entertaining insights from the man who remembers everything and everyone.
Not to mention that Professor Warnken remembers every date and every birthday – truly remarkable. Look forward to the blog!
